LEINTHALL EARLES is a township and chapelry in the parish of
Aymestrey, distant about 2 miles N.E. of that village; is in Wigmore
hundred, Leominster union and county court district, Wigmore petty sessional
division and polling district. The population is included in the
returns for Aymestrey parish (see Aymestrey, page 62). The area of the
chapelry is 991 acres. Thomas Dunne, Esq., is lord of the manor and
chief landowner. The soil is loam and gravel; subsoil, limestone; products,
wheat, barley, hops, &c. The living is a vicarage in the diocese
and archdeaconry of Hereford and rural deanery of Leominster; it is
annexed to Aymestrey; patron and vicar, Rev. Thomas Green, M.A.,
of Worcester College, Oxford. The chapel of ease (St. Andrew's) was
partially restored in 1872 at the expense of Thomas Dunne, Esq., of
Bircher hall. Open seats (free and unappropriated) have been substituted
for the high pews. Accommodation is provided for 100 worshippers.
The register begins with the year 1591. There is a school
for boys and girls, endowed with £9 yearly to educate 6 poor children
of this township. The schoolroom has been enlarged to accommodate
40 children.
